tips for cosplayers/photographers?
hurrhurrr..I needed a list when I started~
Cosplay is a hobby, not a competition, that requires practice, patience, and time management.
PRACTICE:
*Don't try to do a cosplay that's too difficult for you, especially if you've just started. I suggest reading forums on cosplay.com, they have opinions from some very skilled people that know what they're doing. Asking questions is good, too. Send a message about patterns, props, wig styling, ect.; you'll difinitely appreciate the help you get, and might make a new friend!
PATIENCE:
*Don't worry about all aspects of a costume, it'll make stress, and stress comes with some unattractive outcomes. If you're not stressed out, you'll have a happier and more approachable look :D Patience is also a problem with buying wigs, fabric, ect. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Reference pictures always come in handy for color and material choices. For sewing, I suggest looking at fabric stores around your area first, then checking online if you're absolutely sure you can't find what you want. I always buy my wigs online, so I need to do my research with colors and what the fibers are made of. With wigs, if you can't find something super-accurate, buy something as close to the character as possible, and do minor coloring with Sharpies.
TIME MANAGEMENT:
*Give yourself enough time to finish your cosplays. Make a schedule, but don't cancel all other activities. Cosplay isn't a job, you don't need to fill all of your time on a costume. If you're on a serious time-budget, tell yourself that you're going to finish, and be happy with the results (listening to my favorite, happy songs also helps) :D
